The golden ‘80s was an unforgettable time with lots of outstanding events, crazy fashion rules, new movements, and political changes. Despite many other great persons, we want to talk about a few female pop singers who were fashion, music and life icons. What have they done and where are they now?

Tina Turner

Probably, it would be difficult to find a person that has never heard of the greatest Tina. As someone said about her “that little woman has the whole hell inside” and it couldn’t be truer. If ever tried to watch old videos from her concerts, you still can feel how much energy and love she put to her performances and her voice is nothing but a gift from heaven. The worldwide famous was gained by the smashing hit “Private Dancer” when she reached top positions in many countries on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. There is a long list of her top hits including “We Don’t Need Another Hero”, “I Don’t Wanna Fight”, and “The Best” also became a favorite one later in the decade. Tina Turner always said that she loves rock music and confirmed that in a very successful partnership with Bryan Adams on the song “It’s Only Love” – another smashing hit of Tina. During the career, she has won 12 Grammy Awards including a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. The magazine of Rolling Stone ranked Tina Turner as the 63rd on its list of the 100 greatest artists of all time and 17th on its list of the 100 greatest singers of all time. Of course, she has a star in Hollywood Walk of Fame and many other awards.

Annie Lennox

She was a vocal singer in an epic band Eurythmics and produced all the iconic songs of that decade such as “Sweet Dreams”, “Here Comes the Rain Again “, “Would I Lie to You?” and many other. Later she has started a solo career and produced 6 albums more. Most of her songs now are described as mainstream rock classic hits of 80’s, so there is no surprise that she was awarded many times including four Grammy Awards, One MTV Video Music Award, eight Brit Awards, a Billboard Century Award, the Golden Globe and the Academy Award for Best Original Song for “Into the West“, the soundtrack for The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. Annie is also titled as the “The Greatest White Soul Singer Alive” by VH1 and one of The 100 Greatest Singers of All Time by the magazine of Rolling Stone. Now Annie is working as a political activist and philanthropist, launching social campaigns and collecting money for charity organizations.



She is called the queen of Pop music, the diva, the materialist, and many other words still the truth is that people can love her or hate her, but everyone knows who she is. Her popularity lasts for more than three decades and she still is going with the mainstream flow. Different generations are familiar with her all-time hits such as “Like a Virgin”, “La Isla Bonita”, “Papa Don’t Preach”, or the new ones like “Hung Up” or “4 Minutes”. She tried to be an actress and the most famous role was Evita, so know everyone knows the iconic song “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina”. Today Madonna is still working on her performances, singing with young singers and launching few businesses.
